Fresh Paint Gala and Auction
Copley Society of Art
May. 16, 2019, 06:30 pm
Mayor Martin J. Walsh has proclaimed May 5, 2019 Fresh Paint Day in Boston. On Sunday, May 5th, artists from the Copley Society of Art will set up their easels around the greater Boston area to paint original works featuring some of the area’s most treasured locations and landmarks. The 31st annual Fresh Paint will culminate in a silent auction and gala on Thursday, May 16th.
For Co|So’s 140th year anniversary, artists will be creating “Fresh Views of Classic Scenes”: artists will depict a location featured in a notable historical artwork from the turn of the century as it looks today, recreating these paintings by referencing the same location in their own contemporary style. Artists will find inspiration in famous works by artists such as Childe Hassam, Edmund Tarbell, and Maurice Prendergast.
The newly painted works will be displayed for two weeks, available for bidding in silent auction beginning May 7th and culminating with the Gala on Thursday, May 16th, from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. One of the most vibrant events of the Copley Society’s year, the evening will include wine, a signature cocktail, hors d’oeuvres, music, and silent auction of more than 70 freshly painted works. Tickets for the Gala may be purchased at: www.freshpaint2019.eventbrite.com.
Fresh Paint is the gallery’s biggest and most important fundraiser, supporting innovative exhibitions of emerging and established artists, lectures, scholarships, residencies, and outreach programs. Founded 140 years ago, the Copley Society of Art has more than 300 artists based in the New England area, across the United States, and abroad. After a competitive membership review, artists are offered an opportunity to exhibit their work year round in our Newbury Street gallery, partake in artist workshops and discussions, and further their careers through solo shows, residencies, and exhibitions.
