Film Screening: Hilma
Epsilon Spires
May. 21, 2023, 08:00 pm
Swedish director Lasse Hallström’s new film Hilma (2023) explores the enigmatic life of Hilma af Klint (1862–1944), a female artist now recognized as a pioneer of abstraction. The academy-award nominated director is known for his popular indie films, including What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Chocolat, and Cider House Rules, which was filmed at historic Scott Farm in Dummerston, Vermont.
Hilma offers a glimpse into the life of a foundational modern artist who was largely disregarded during her lifetime and in the decades following but has recently begun to receive the attention she deserves. Contributing to these efforts, Hallström constructs a gripping image of the artist and her immense creativity and persistence in the face of gender discrimination.
This is an in-person event taking place at Epsilon Spires, 190 Main St., Brattleboro, VT 05301.
