The Music: The program will span several centuries and countries. It includes the musical compositions of German composers, J. S. Bach (Gamba Sonata in D Major) and Robert Schumann (Five Pieces in Folk Style), the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos (Pequeña Suite), and the 20th century American composer Virgil Thompson (Four Portraits).
Chamber music is performed by small ensembles, with one musician per part, performed without a conductor. Because of its intimate nature, chamber music has been described as “the music of friends”.
