What do you think needs to change in today’s world? How can you create art that activates people to do something about it? Explore the issues you care about, and learn how to create something that engages your audience. Learning how to put creative energy into the things that worry you is healing and effective – and will give you the power to educate others and make some good changes! These are fierce skills! Students will learn that artists throughout history (such as Diego Rivera and Jacob Lawrence) as well as contemporary artists like Banksy, Marina Debris, and Manuel Oliver chose topics that directly affected them or those they cared about. Also, we have on-site artists whose art addresses social issues, and students will see and discuss their work in person (Duvian Montoya, Elisha Brockenberry, Iyaba Mandingo, Jahmane). We will also study Youth Activists of today, such as Greta Thurnberg, LeSein Mutunkei, Isra Hirsi, and Gracie Pekrul (some may FaceTime with us)! Let your art release your power! Final projects will be displayed at The Norwalk Art Space with a formal opening reception on December 15, 2022. Free and open to ages 11-14. Registration is required through our website: www.thenorwalkartspace.org/book-online (If the class is full, please email [email protected] to be added to the waitlist)
