The Stamford Mayor’s Gallery presents “In Pursuit of Joy”, Photography & Paintings by Lynda James Carroll at the Mayor’s Gallery of Stamford. The exhibition runs from February 28th, 2024 thru April 22nd, 2024.
The artist’s reception is scheduled for March 14th, from 5:30-7:30 PM where the public is invited to meet the artists.
Artist Lynda James Carroll has found inspirations in the divisions across our nation and create alternative visual solutions. She’s created photographic images where the observer perceives the same situation with the same stimuli in multiple ways that is ironically similar to our current political climate. These photographic puzzles, which are being exhibited as a group for the first time ever, are formally known as bistable images. The question and amusement with each of the visual puzzles is to ask “How was it created?” and “What is the truth?”. Each image is a single shot without Photoshop manipulation.
Ms. Carroll will also be displaying a striking collection of oil paintings depicting the beauty of the nature world.
“It has felt like a very dark chapter, politically and socially of late and in my exhaustion about it all, I needed to look for those glimmers of joy that give us all hope and focus on what is more positive. Looking around there are many of those expandable slivers.
The pursuit is what is elevating me, through the healing power of nature, the sense of play, and a grateful celebration of our beautiful country. This pursuit is what has been important, to explore the shift in viewpoint necessary to come up with alternate solutions”. Lynda James Carroll
For 40 years Ms. Carroll taught Art related subjects to all levels of students from Kindergarten to Adults, primarily at the high school level in the Greenwich and Wilton Public Schools. Ms. Carroll managed the Art and Music Departments for the Greenwich Public Schools. She’s also instructed adults at Parsons School of Design in New York City and Silvermine School of Art in New Canaan, CT.
She’s was the Associate Curator of Education at the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art in Ridgefield, CT and was the President of the Loft Artists Association in Stamford all while maintaining an active studio art practice.
