In commemoration of the 110th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, Lyme Art Association is pleased to present, Art of the Sea, a lecture by maritime painter, Marek Sarba on his memorial work, And the Band Played On. Join us on Thursday, July 14th from 7 – 8 pm for this lively discussion about the voyage of the Titanic and its passengers and about Marek’s dynamic painting that remembers the lives of those who perished.

Polish born artist Marek Sarba uses his past as a navy sailor to inform his paintings, which capture the dynamic energy of the ocean and draw the viewer into experiencing the awe and beauty of ships at sea and maritime life. His works reflect the sea’s mystical power with a passion that only first-hand experience can produce.

The Art of the Sea lecture is happening in conjunction with Lyme Art Association’s marine show, Ship to Shore, which is currently on view and celebrates all aspects of sea and shoreline life. Ship to Shore is a members’ exhibition which features a broad range of styles and mediums, and acts as a survey of contemporary maritime artwork, while celebrating the waters that connect us. Concurrent with Ship to Shore, the Connecticut Pastel Society will display Renaissance in Pastel. The exhibition includes the finest pastel work from the Connecticut Pastel Society’s member artists. In addition, Lyme Art Association’s young artists’ exhibition, Water All Around Us, will be on display in the Mile Brook Gallery. Ship to Shore and Renaissance in Pastel run through August 4th. Water All Around Us runs through August 12. Ship to Shore and Water All Around Us are proudly sponsored by Essex Savings Bank, our Premier Sponsor.

Art of the Sea is Thursday, July 14th at 7 – 8 pm at the Lyme Art Association, 90 Lyme Street, Old Lyme, Connecticut. This lecture is free, a $5 donation is greatly appreciated.
