Ekaterina Ermilkina’s original abstract fine art paintings are created using a skillful combination of applying and removing oil paint with a palette knife on canvas. Originally from Yalta, coming to the United States and the experience of seeing skyscrapers for the first time had an enormous imaginative impact on Ekaterina, and the effects continue to reverberate in her work, both in its content and her evolving technique. The modernist style of the buildings, juxtaposed against the soft human interaction inspired the “Urban Series”.

Her medium is oil on canvas through pointillism and stippling using a palette knife, ultimately only seen as a pattern, which allows such subtle gradation of color, depending on how far apart the dots are placed, and creates great depth and dimension.
