The Wassaic Project is looking for a 2023-24 Programming Fellow!

About Us:
The Wassaic Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, uses art and arts education to foster positive social change. We nurture connections between our artists and our neighbors facilitating a mutual broadening of perspectives and respect across economic and cultural boundaries. Partnerships between artists and our community improve the reach and quality of our work and inspire new ways of looking at art and the world. We strive to be actively anti-racist and consider this stance in all programmatic, curatorial, and management decisions.

Job Description:
Our Programming Fellow works alongside our Director of Artistic Programming on our exhibitions, artist residency program, summer and winter benefits, and public programming — including our annual Haunted Mill in October, summer block parties, and other seasonal events. Our Programming Fellow also helps evaluate our existing programming and workshop new programs. We expect our programming to continue to grow in the next few years, and we’re always looking to refine the ways we already support our artists and community. Preference will be given to those with experience in exhibitions and/or programming and who have an artistic practice (visual or otherwise) of their own. The Wassaic Project is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage candidates from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds to apply.

Responsibilities include:
Assisting and supporting 2 major exhibitions, as well as additional artist projects. This may include building walls, pedestals, hanging artwork, painting walls, packing artwork for shipment, transporting artwork, etc. The major exhibitions include: our annual Summer Exhibition from May – September (install: April/May, deinstall: Sept/October), and our Winter Exhibition from December – March (install: November, deinstall: March/April). Assisting and supporting our year-round artist residency program.

Key Characteristics:
A connector and team player: someone who is comfortable working closely with a wide variety of people and finding ways for them to collaborate and communicate. An excellent facilitator and organizer who can assess the skills of others and assign tasks accordingly.
Flexible working style and ability to remain calm in an active and decentralized office. Energetic and positive, with a good sense of humor and passion for improving the lives of others through the arts. A strong interest in joining the Wassaic Project community.

Compensation / Expectation:
Start date: October 1, 2023
Duration: One year position (negotiable for longer)
Expectation: ~30 hours/week, full time in Wassaic in-office/on-site
Availability and attendance at all public events, including weekends
Compensation: $1500/month
Housing provided on-site (shared house with two additional Wassaic Project fellows)
Semi-private studio space (will change seasonally)
Access to Wassaic Project facilities including our wood shop, kiln, and print shop (seasonal)
Participation in our studio visits program

Health Insurance is not offered.
