SCHEDULE
January 21 (Sunday), 11:59 pm: Submission deadline (this will NOT be extended)
February 8 (Thursday): Notifications begin
February 25 (Sunday), 9-10 am: Art dropoff for local artists & installation
March 7 (Wednesday), 6-8 pm: Opening reception. Awards presented at 7 pm
March 17 (Saturday), 2 pm: Artist talks
April 29 (Sunday), 10 am-11 am: Pick up & Deinstallation
JUROR
Molly Glentzer, Senior writer and critic, Arts & Culture, Houston Chronicle
Molly Glentzer, a staff arts critic since 1998, writes mostly about dance and visual arts but can go anywhere a good story leads. Through covering public art in parks, she developed a beat focused on Houston’s emergence as one of the nation’s leading “green renaissance” cities. During about 30 years as a journalist Molly has also written for periodicals, including Texas Monthly, Saveur, Food & Wine, Dance Magazine and Dance International.
AWARDS & CATALOG
More than $2,550 in cash will be awarded. First place award will be $1,000; second place, $750; third place $500; and 3 Honorable Mentions. An exhibtion catalog will be produced.
ENTRY FEE
The entry fee is $50 for VAA members and $60 for non-members – for up to 4 entries.
SPECIFICATIONS
Artwork may be created from any media, in both 2-D and 3-D with the exception of video works. Work must not have been previously included in a VAA exhibit. A diptych or triptych is considered a single work. 2-D works must be suitably framed or edge-finished and not larger than 30″(including frame).
