Rapid Pulse International Performance Art Festival
Defibrillator Performance Art Gallery
Entry Deadline: Dec. 30
RAPID PULSE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART FESTIVAL 2015 is now accepting proposals for our fourth annual RAPID PULSE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART FESTIVAL to be held JUNE 4-14, 2015. Contextualizing performance within visual art, RAPID PULSE aims to represent a wide range of styles and forms of time-based expression. We embrace artists who look to the body, objects, space, and time for inspiration, research, and practice. Dynamic programming, decidedly fearless and unique, aims to provoke thought and stimulate discourse surrounding performance art.
We are accepting proposals to fit within a set structure and preference will be given to work that fits within these guidelines:
Performances of thirty minutes or less in the main gallery.
Durational work lasting three or more hours in our display window, viewed from the street.
Outdoor or site-specific performances outside a gallery context.
RAPID PULSE is also taking applications for our video series. We seek performance works for the camera in which the lens is an integrated and essential element. Please note that performance documentation is not our focus. However, we do consider documentation of performances that are impossible to present live due to site specificity, extended duration, scale, unique materials, etc. Preference will be given to videos based on these criteria that are 10 minutes or less. We regret that video installations are not possible.
Approximately one-third of selected artists will be International, one-third local (Chicago), and one-third from other regions in the United States. Artists who have been in previous editions of Rapid Pulse may apply but priority is given to those who we have not yet presented.
We regret that RAPID PULSE is not able to pay artist fees or travel expenses. However, five nights of humble accommodation, one daily meal and limited assistance with materials will be provided. Accepted artists will also receive a printed catalog and photo/video documentation. We will notify applicants by JANUARY 30, 2015, allowing four months to seek funding opportunities in your homeland with our letter of invitation.
The curatorial committee for RAPID PULSE 2015 consists of Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art Curatorial Assistant, Steven Bridges; Curator and Performance Artist, Julie Laffin; Assistant Festival Director, Giana Gambino; Defibrillator Founder and Director, Joseph Ravens; and Curatorial Fellows, Jennifer Mefford and Teresa Silva.
