For the ninth consecutive year, the developers of Queens Crossing Mall (F&T Group) and Crossing Art Projects are seeking submissions for our holiday public art installation. This annual sculpture commission, on display from December 8, 2016 to January 27, 2017, will seek to invoke the spirit of the holidays and be realized on the plaza outside Queen Crossing Mall. Every year, this project enables Crossing Art Projects and F&T Group to continue our shared vision to showcase the work of talented artists and provide them with a broader platform for exposure. We are searching for an artist that shows commitment to his or her craft and are open to submissions from artists at any stage of their career, working in a variety of media, including painting, photography, performance, installation, video and sculpture.

Theme:
Artists are invited to submit work that addresses the theme of the holidays here at home in New York as well as globally. More specifically, artists will explore the wellspring of meanings and affiliations behind what it means to “be in the spirit” and showcase artwork that has the power to transport onlookers to a place beyond the usual holiday themes of gift giving and time with family, to convey a more expansive, thoughtful interpretation.

Submission Process:
When submitting proposals, please carefully read and review the guidelines and conditions below. All artists are eligible to apply, regardless of age, gender, or nationality except those that are currently enrolled in a college or university program.

Selection Criteria:
The finalist will be chosen based on the following:
• Quality of the artwork to be realized
• It’s relation to the theme of the exhibition
• Artist’s level of commitment to their practice
• Artistic merit & professional record

Submission Guidelines:
Proposals must be submitted by the artist and must include:

• Concept Brief: A concise paragraph summarizing the idea/concept behind the envisioned sculpture and how it supports/addresses the theme.
• Background: CV, brief bio, website links, social media handles
• Sample Work: 5 Images, Size of JPGs 1200 x 1200 (max), label each file “ArtistLastName_Title of Work”
• Image of Work: A JPG image of a sketch (hand-drawn or computer generated) of the envisioned piece or a photo of a maquette.

-Submit items as a single PDF and attach sample work JPGs in a zipped folder (.zip).
Do not include any application material in the body of your email.

Please address all submission proposals with the subject line “Holiday 2016 Open Call – Artist Name” to [email protected]

Terms & Conditions:
• A contract will be drawn up between the artist and the commissioning bodies to make sure all terms are formally agreed upon prior to the start of the commission.
