Do you like to use your art to do good and help others?

On May 4, 2019 Art Resource Collaborative for Kids (ARCK) is hosting a public community art festival and one-day art show to celebrate the arts in Boston and raise awareness for the need of arts education in schools.

As part of the event, there will be a gallery showing and VIP silent auction at the gallery at the rear of 51 Brookline Ave in the Fenway. The funds raised will help support arts education in Boston Public Schools.

We are currently soliciting artwork related to the theme “WALLS THAT SPEAK” from Massachusetts artists.

This gallery event will benefit youth art education programs run through ARCK. All participating artists will receive 30% of the money raised from their piece unless they choose to donate the entirety of the proceeds.

There is no fee to submit your work.

The show will be curated by Christine O’Donnell, the owner and director of Beacon Gallery.

NB: all artists have the right to inquire about the final sale price of their pieces, and will also receive the contact details of the buyer.

BACKGROUND:
More about Walls that Speak: Last year eighty 7th grade students from Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School in Dorchester and Gardner Pilot Academy in Allston collaborated with local artists to create a mural entitled “Paredes Que Hablan” (Walls that Speak). By integrating an eclectic collection of images into a unified scene, these students transformed wooden panel “walls” from their usual symbol as a barrier to communication, opportunity, and empathy, into a symbol of diversity and compassion. Each student created their own image to represent their experience with both a physical or metaphorical border crossing, which were then combined by a group of student artists to create the mural.

GUIDELINES:
Artwork submissions that speak to the theme of border crossing or that relate to the overarching message of connection and communication are welcome for consideration!
