The Artists Loft, located in downtown Oakland, CA is seeking local San Francisco Bay Area artists to exhibit their work for a one weekend art exhibit, November 8 – 10, 2019. Visual and performance artists are welcome to submit all mediums including painting, charcoal, illustrations, ceramic, jewelry, sculpture, photography, installations, poetry/spoken word, songs, music, dance, filmography, etc.

The topic of this exhibit will be “Dia de los Muertos”, or “Day of the Dead”, the equivalent of the Catholic “All Souls Day” celebrated on November 2, where the dearly departed are celebrated and honored by loved ones.

Work must adhere to the following parameters:

– Each work must address the topic, and

– Each piece (or grouping) of physical art must be for sale for $400 or less.

Within these parameters, the exhibit is open to your artistic interpretation. You may opt to focus on an intimate experience such as personal loss, cherished relationships; a broader experience such as local and global current events and issues, cultural traditions and rituals, the mystery of cemeteries; or contemporary iconography such as calaveras (sugar skulls), calacas (skeletons) or catrinas (Ladies of Death), Mexican Artists, etc.

This exhibit will incorporate a fun, lively concept – Off the Hook – that will encourage visitors to liberate the art (i.e. buy) as they view it, and take immediate possession of purchased art rather than after the exhibit has closed — essentially taking down the exhibit in real time.

Interested artists should email Melanie Gravois of The Artists Loft at [email protected] by October 1, 2019. Provide your full name, mailing address, phone number, email address and jpegs of up to 6 pieces of work that you would like to be considered for the exhibit. Include the name of the work, medium, dimensions (framed) and sale price. Please ensure that your information is accurate and complete.

Note: Artists may be required to bring samples of work to The Artists Loft for view prior to them being accepted for this exhibit. The Artists Loft reserves the right to select pieces of work to be exhibited in this show.
