Art quarter Budapest is an independent cultural institution set in the former Haggenmacher brewery in Budafok. Numerous Hungarian visual artists and creative enterprises found their permanent base in the reconstructed industrial building complex. In its non-profit gallery, the aqb Project Space, the team organises local and international contemporary art exhibitions collaborating with curators and other institutions. Since 2013 aqb has run an international artist-in-residency program and so far hosted more than 100 artists from all over the world. Besides that, the institution hosts other types of cultural programs like concerts, performances, readings, film screenings, workshops and gastronomical events.

Accommodation
Our residence program offers all entering participants a fully furnished room within a communal apartment located on the aqb premises, as well as a studio space catering to the project’s requirements.

Each studio has a desk and chair, and wi-fi Internet. There are communal bathrooms on each floor of the building and a fully equipped kitchen on the top floor, alongside the roof-top patio.
Fees and support
The fee for participating in the aqb Artist-in-Residence Program is EUR 950 per month. This fee serves as an important contribution to the maintenance and operation of our institution.
We suggest that you look for additional funding from your local (city), national (country) or international arts organizations. We’ve also had past residents run successful crowdfunding campaigns to help sponsor their project.
Expectations towards the artist
At the end of the residency, there is the possibility of creating a pop-up exhibition or artist talk in the institution’s exhibition spaces.

A portfolio of related works.
Visual artists: images or video links.
Performing artists: a synopsis of previous works, video links and reviews.
Literature: a list of publications and professional acknowledgements.

A project description which clearly elaborates the residency goals and the work to be created while at aqb.
Performing artists: the description should contain a list of production partners and expected date and place of the first performance.
A statement explaining how coming to aqb, to Budapest, or to Hungary is relevant to the development of your project. For example, how does the geographic, social, political or cultural dynamics of Budapest, Hungary play a role in your project?
