Art on the Ile is seeking artist submissions for several sculptures to be displayed on downtown Macomb Street for a two-year exhibition period running from 2022-2024. Please thoroughly read the submission guidelines prior to applying.

Submission Guidelines:

Eligibility & Requirements:

Must be 18 or older to be considered.
Sculpture must be exhibited for the full length of the two-year exhibit.
Sculpture must be ready for exhibit August 11th.
Accepting both regional and national artist submissions (giving regional artists priority.)
Previous public art experience while valued, is not required.
Artist may submit up to three sculptures for consideration.
There is a 5-foot minimum height preference for sculptures.
A minimum of 1 image is required for each sculpture submitted, and the maximum is 3 images per sculpture.
Each uploaded image must be JPEG or JPG format and a minimum of 1.5 MB- maximum 4.9 MB
Images of finished works or conceptual drawings may be submitted. If it is not a finished work, provide additional information to assure the juror of what it will look like and that it will be completed and installed as designed.
Sculptures must be made of materials suitable for year-round Michigan weather.
The artist is responsible for transporting their artwork to the site on the specified date and must be present during the specified installation date.
Artist is required to have their artwork insured. The Grosse Ile Downtown Development Authority is not responsible for any damages that may occur to the artwork during the exhibition period.
Once the artist is notified of acceptance, they will be required to sign a contractual artist agreement to display their artwork.

Timeline and Important Dates:

July 27, 2022: Deadline to Submit
July 29, 2022: Artists will be notified of acceptance
August 11-25, 2022: Installation of sculptures
August 27, 2022: Opening night, unveiling of the sculptures
August 27, 2024: Deinstallation of sculptures

Artist Stipend and Sculpture Purchase:

Each artist will receive an honorarium of $500 per exhibiting year. Artists will be awarded the first annual fee after the sculpture has been installed and approved by the DDA and the second annual fee one calendar year from the original date of installation totaling to $1,000 over a two-year period.
Artist may choose to have their displayed sculpture for purchase. The Grosse Ile DDA will not take a commission of any artwork sold. Artist will be responsible for coordinating the sale of their artwork.
