2015 Umpqua Plein Air

Umpqua Plein Air has become a popular regional art event among painters from all over the Pacific Northwest and Southern California. For some artists, this event is their first exposure to outdoor painting in Douglas County’s wild and beautiful landscape. There’s incredible quality and sense of camaraderie to this event and we look so forward to it each year.

This year, we are proud to present Mike Hernandez as our juror, and Patti McNutt as our guest speaker.

The event includes a Quick Draw competition and dinner with music in the park for participating artists on the evening of September 16, a paint-out at various locations around Roseburg on Thursday and Friday, and an artist demo and lecture on Saturday. Painters of all levels are welcome to participate. The event culminates in the Umpqua Plein Air Exhibit opening, which is on Saturday from 1 – 3pm and is juried by award-winning plein air painter Mike Hernandez. Each participant in the Umpqua Plein Air Paintout will have at least one piece hanging in the show, which fills the entire Arts Center building. The exhibit will hang from September 19 through October 23, 2015. Cash prizes will be granted at the opening of the show, as well as many awards of distinction that will be given by the juror.
