Biodiversity | Cultural Diversity a Juried Art Show
Arts Place Inc.
Entry Deadline: Aug. 17
The Portland Center of Arts Place is calling for entries for artists in any medium. This regional juried exhibition will focus on new and innovative artwork. Cash awards totaling $3,000.
Cultural Diversity – When people are brought together to solve problems in groups, they bring different information, opinions, and perspectives. People from diverse cultures contribute language skills, new ways of thinking, new knowledge, and different experiences.
Biodiversity – The variety and variability of animals, plants, and micro-organisms that are used directly or indirectly for food and agriculture. It is the result of the interaction between the environment, genetic resources, management systems, and practices used by culturally diverse peoples, and therefore land and water resources are used for production in different ways.
The show will be juried by Marie Whiteman. Interconnectedness is at the heart of Maria Whiteman’s art. Engaging with animals, landscapes, and most recently fungi, she uses multiple media including photography and video to convey the deep and intrinsic ties between humans and other living things. As these interrelationships underlie environmental science, her goal at the Environmental Resilience Institute (ERI) is to create a visual entry point for people to approach the science through a visceral, emotional experience.
