Opening Reception: Saturday, January 25, 4:00 – 6:00 PM

Pentimenti Gallery opens the new year with paintings by three artists for the group exhibition “A Mind of Their Own”.

THERESA DADDEZIO
Theresa Daddezio’s most recent paintings feature constantly flowing, alternating bands of colors contained within a consistent, vertically oriented rectangular frame. These abstract color streams resemble naturally occurring shapes and movements within a multidimensional psychological site. She creates each piece sequentially allowing for visual elements to flow and transform organically, while retaining a harmonious unity throughout the work.

Daddezio received her BFA from Purchase College of Art & Design and her MFA from Hunter College, New York, NY. Her work has been exhibited at select museums and institutions: New York Studio School, New York, NY; University of Hawai’i at Manoa, HI; Studio Kura, Itoshima, Japan; and more.

CLINT JUKKALA
Clint Jukkala’s work can be viewed as both representational and abstract. His most recent paintings feature head and eye-like forms that have a way of confronting and staring back at the viewer. Jukkala paints directly and intuitively, allowing the paint and process to inform the work. Atmospheric washes and bold, gestural strokes lead to visceral paintings that examine notions of perception and reality.

Jukkala received his BFA from University of Washington and his MFA at Yale University School of Art. His work has been exhibited at museums and institutions: Woodmere Art Museum, Philadelphia, PA; West Chester University, West Chester, PA; Harrison Center for the Arts, Indianapolis, IN; Finlandia University, Hancock, MI; Strauss Gallery, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH; deCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, Lincoln, MA; among others. He is currently Dean of the School of Fine Arts, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA.

JAN MAARTEN VOSKUIL
Jan Maarten Voskuil’s work seeks to explore the boundaries between painting, sculpture, design and architecture. Mathematically calculated and expertly crafted frames are assembled to form the spatial construct of his modular paintings. Once stretched, these brilliantly painted geometric designs produce smooth, curved surfaces that appear actively in flux as they bend and shift upon the wall.

Voskuil lives and works in Haarlem, Netherlands and his work has been exhibited extensively in museums and institutions around the world. His work is in the collections of: Frans Hals Museum, Netherlands; Stedelijk Museum, Netherlands; Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Netherlands; Wilhelm-Hack-Museum, Germany; Museum of Geometric & MADI Art, Dallas, TX; CCNOA, Belgium; Museum Voorlinden, Netherlands; as well as many private and corporate collections.
