The Brandywine River Museum exhibits American art of the 19th-century and is internationally known for its works by three generations of Wyeths and American still life and landscape painting.

During the 19th century many artists traveled to the Brandywine Valley to study landscape painting. Well known members of the Hudson River School, including Thomas Doughty and Edward Moran have painted in the region

The museum permanent collect includes N. C. and Andrew Wyeth’s years of paintings and drawings. N.C. Wyeth painted as an illustrators with work featured in magazines and newspapers and in numerous very popular books. In the collection are several of his Treasure Island illustrations along with works from Kidnapped, The Black Arrow, The Boy’s King Arthur and The Last of the Mohicans.

Andrew Wyeth’s younger son, James Wyeth portrait of John F. Kennedy and other works are displayed with portraits of Rudolf Nureyev and Andy Warhol.
