“Era of Activism” features works from the Permanent Collection that speak to the social outcry of the 1960s and 1970s. Representing both national and international protest, they illustrate the use of art in social commentary. Some work is more radical as shown in the AfriCOBRA pieces and some are more playful such as Claes Oldenburg’s print from Once Cent Life. Whether Black Power, the Irish Republican Army, or Feminism, these artists are a testament to the impact of activism through art.
