Foundry Gallery presents “The Usual Suspects,” a dual exhibit by Virginia abstract artists Charlene Nield and Ann Pickett. At a time in Washington when persons of interest tend to be of the political variety, Nield and Pickett’s exhibit “The Usual Suspects” offers respite by presenting an alternative cast of characters in their collection of figurative works. The exhibit is open to the public from October 4th to 29th.

Nield’s motley crew of characters provides an eclectic and intricate sampling of her representational style. Her approach to figures is colorful and rich with texture, bringing whimsy and joy to the banality of everyday life.

Pickett’s loose figurative style dances across her works, creating the impression of figure and form through her use of line, shape, and color, compelling the viewer to leave rigidity behind and move in concert, freely and entirely.

“The Usual Suspects,” which revels in the juxtaposition of Nield and Pickett’s approach to figures, culminates in a collaborative effort that unites both artists’ painting styles. The resulting work, Gypsy, Grace & Queenie Marie, is engaging, a mystery that challenges the viewer to uncover where one painter stops and the other begins.

Foundry Gallery will be hosting an opening reception for “The Usual Suspects” on Saturday, October 7 from 6-9 p.m, where light fare and refreshments will be served. Foundry Gallery is located at 2118 8th St NW, Washington DC, 20001. They are open WEDS-SUN, 1-7 – Tel. 202-232-0203.
