Atlanta Photography Group will be presenting the APG annual $2500 High Museum of Art Purchase Award to this year’s winner, Nancy Floyd, on Thursday evening, November 10, 2016 in a special reception from 6-8pm at the APG Gallery. Three pieces from Atlanta-based artist Nancy Floyd’s series “Weathering Time” were selected by Brett Abbot, Curator of Photography and Head of Collections at the High Museum of Art for their permanent collection. Each year, in conjunction with its Portfolio Exhibition, APG offers a $2500 purchase award to fund a potential High Museum purchase, one of the most prestigious accomplishments an aspiring artist can achieve. This year’s exhibition was juried by Lisa Sutcliffe, Curator of Photography and Media Arts at the Milwaukee Art Museum from a national call for entries. Abbot chose Floyd’s 35 year self-portrait project from a group of 7 photographers shown this year. Significant as a documentary, visual archive, and personal journal, Floyd’s series was also recently awarded the important John Gutman Award.
