What’s a box? This call seeks work of all subject matter presented in a box or container. The enclosure may be open or closed and/or in some cases interactive. Assemblage is encouraged; however, all 2D and 3D media, as well as video will be considered.

The exhibition investigates how the form of the box—conceptually or materially—impacts the content or presentation of the artwork. Themes may include:
• Formal
• Precious
• Secret
• Imprisoned
• Constrained
• Unknown
• Discovered
• Portability

Work must be no larger than 24”x24” and be delivered either able to be hung or presented on a pedestal.

GUIDELINES:
-There is a $15 entry fee payable through Paypal. Please include “boXed” in the note field.
-A maximum of 3 pieces may be entered for consideration
-Submissions will be accepted through October 8, 2016
-The Nave Gallery will retain a 30% commission for work sold
-Artist is responsible for cost of shipping work to and from the gallery

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR WORK:
Please send up to three artwork submissions as .jpg files to info[at]navegallery[dot]org

2D and 3D works should be submitted as .jpg images

Each .jpg should be 1200 pixels in the long dimension and named as “#_NAME.jpg” where # is the submission number and NAME is your last name.

Include an image list with your .jpg submission email, indicating submission number, title, size, process and year, as well as a brief artist bio and statement. Please indicate where you learned of the call.

Video works can be submitted via link to YouTube, Vimeo, or a similar platform

There is a $15 submission fee, payable through Paypal. Please include “boXed” in the memo.

Accepted pieces should be delivered to the Nave Gallery located in Teele Square (155 Powder House Blvd, Somerville, MA) ready to install.

ABOUT THE CURATORS:
Susan Berstler works as a visual artist, curator and arts producer. She has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally including in Germany, the Czech Republic, Scotland and Canada. She has been instrumental in starting a wide variety of arts projects in her home town of Somerville, MA including the Windows Art Project, Project MUM, the Phone Art Box Project, and the SqueezeBox Slam. One of her main interests is in transformative events and media, especially in the realm of public art.

Jesa Damora runs FunnelCake Marketing, an arts marketing and business development consulting firm, out of Somerville’s Artisan’s Asylum. Her consulting clients include painters, conceptual artists, street artists, metal workers, ceramicists, jewelers, musicians and inventors. She provides arts event development and execution (TED talks, Somerville Open Studios), offers curation services, and develops publicity and PR campaigns.

Jesa is also an artist with work in public, private and corporate collections. As an architect, she ran a consortium sponsored by the US Department of Energy, where she developed alliances, planned and managed events, and waded deep into major grant writing. She is published writer and editor, and a graduate of Harvard University.
