Dedham resident, Cindy Mootz, is the June Artist of the Month at the Dedham Square Artist Guild. She has been painting her whole life, but first started getting serious about her art when she took a watercolor class at the Brookline Arts Center about 25 years ago. She continues to love watercolor and also paints in oil and acrylic, but much of her recent work has focused on creating monotypes. She was introduced to the technique about 18 years ago by Brookline artist Gema Phillips and was immediately hooked. Monotype printing is a process that produces one unique print at a time and can be done with or without a printing press. It is done by transferring a painted image from a plexiglass, copper or gelatin plate to a piece of paper. Sometimes there is enough paint residue left on the plate surface to pull a second lighter print, called a “ghost”. Each transfer is unique and cannot be exactly duplicated.
Cindy Mootz has been juried into shows at the Moose Hill Gallery in Sharon, the Milton Arts Center, The Monotype Guild of New England, and the Akillian Gallery in Canton. She is a member of the Dedham Square Artist Guild, the West Roxbury Art Association and the Monotype Guild of New England (www.MGNE.org).
