The Carriage Barn Arts Center and New Canaan Society for the Arts in partnership with the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce have opened a call for works for “Art in the Windows 2016” inviting 2D art (prints, paintings, drawings, photography, mixed media, and otherwise) and small 3D sculptures to fill New Canaan storefront windows and walls. Submission fee for Artists: $26/up to 3 entries for members/students; $41/ up to 3 entries for non-members. There is no fee for participating merchants, should work sell on the spot, merchants will transact this cash and carry exchange.

Works must be wired for hanging and may be placed on easels. Size matters! The majority of works will be placed in storefront window bays (on carpeted shelves and display risers behind glass) or hang on walls throughout the stores. Preference will be given to 2D works that are no larger than 18 x 24 inches, and wired for framing or submitted with an artist’s easel, base, or stand. Works larger than 3 x 3 feet will not be considered. Sculpture must be no larger than 2 x 2 feet, and may be accepted but placement is not guaranteed. Any work larger than 18 x 24 inches ranging in size up to 36 x 36 inches (3 x 3 feet) may be accepted, but placement is not guaranteed.

We encourage exhibitors to enter works that are for sale. As an annual benefit for the operations of the Carriage Barn, home to the New Canaan Society for the Arts, for any works sold in Art in the Windows, artists receive 50% of the sale price before tax. The Carriage Barn Arts Center and New Canaan Society for the Arts retains the remaining 50% as a transaction fee. While the New Canaan Society for the Arts [NCSA] supports exhibitors who are seeking to sell their work by putting prospective buyers in touch with member artists, the determination of value and other terms of a sale remain a matter between the artist and the prospective buyer throughout the sale process.

About the New Canaan Society for the Arts:
The mission of the New Canaan Society for the Arts is to promote the visual and performing arts, to enrich the community through exhibitions, education, and cultural experiences, and to operate the Carriage Barn Arts Center. We offer artists opportunities to exhibit their work in an exceptional gallery space inside a unique nineteenth-century stone barn. Our shows are complemented by gatherings, educational workshops, concerts, and other events in ours adaptively reused historical space, located on the grounds of a former estate, now named Waveny Park. During exhibitions our gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday 10-3pm and Sundays 1-5pm. Find more information at www.carriagebarn.org.
