Visual Arts Alliance announces the 75th exhibit which VAA is going to produce – the 33rd Juried Open Exhibition.

Highlights include:

1) Juror is a gallery owner
2) Location is within a commercial gallery
3) There will be artist talks
4) Size is limited to 30″

SCHEDULE

May 1 (Sunday), 11:59pm: Submission deadline (this will NOT be extended)

May 4: juror receives submissions

May 19 (Thursday): Notifications begin

June 5 (Sunday), 9-11am: Art dropoff for local artists & installation

June 15 (Wednesday), 6-8pm, awards at 7pm: Reception

July 3 (Sunday), 10am-12pm: Deinstallation

2) JUROR

Dan Allison exhibits new and emerging artists as well as established work by regionally- and nationally-recognized artists in his gallery, D.M. Allison Gallery. In 2000, Allison established a printmaking studio, Texas Collaborative Arts, with an emphasis on the collaborative aspects between printer and artist. In 2007 he established the “Nau-haus” art venue where he presented more than 60 exhibitions between 2007 and 2011.

Allison has served on the boards of Houston’s Women’s Caucus for the Arts (1984), Lawndale (1988), The Art League of Houston (1987), and Art Lies Magazine (1995). He served as Director for Barbara Davis Pennzoil Place (1994-95). In addition, he was a founding board member of Art Lies Magazine and the Artist Rescue Mission. He has curated public art exhibitions for HWCA, National Organization of Women, One and Two Houston Center, and the Barbara Davis Gallery.

Allison earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis on printmaking from the Sam Houston University in 1978. In 1988, a retrospective of the artist’s works was shown by the newly opened Modern Museum of Viejo in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, before traveling to venues in Tokyo, Los Angeles, and New York.

3) AWARDS & CATALOG

More than $2500 in cash will be awarded. An exhibtion catalog will be produced.

4) PROMO CD

All submitted artworks will be included in a custom-designed CD which is hand-delivered to about 50 Houston-area galleries and art consultants.
5) ENTRY FEE
The entry fee is $50 for VAA members and $60 for non-members – for up to 4 entries.
