Kalamazoo Institute of Arts presents Reflections: African American Life from the Myrna Colley-Lee Collection. Myrna gives us a story of her very personal place in community through a selection of the extensive collection of costume designer and arts patron. Featuring 50 works including paintings works on paper, collages, and fabric works, Lee brings to life the lifestyle of African Americans in the 20th century.
The exhibition focuses on the representational, presenting pieces by such noted artists as Romare Bearden, James VanDerZee, Elizabeth Catlett, Eudora Welty, and Betye Saar. Combined, these complementary works present a glimps of life from within the African American community.
