The Flint Institute of Arts presents Reflections on Water in American Painting, The Phelan Collection at the Hodge Gallery.
The history of the sea and waterways of America are presented in this exhibition through 50 paintings, beginning with a rare 1828 painting by John S. Blunt of a U.S. Naval frigate.
Must see paintings by major American Impressionists include; William Merritt Chase, Frank W. Benson, and Robert Vonnoh. The paintings begin with the a range from Cos Cob’s Mianus River by Elmer MacRae, through Old Lyme by Wilson Irvine and Willard Metcalf, to Mystic by G. A. Thompson, Charles H. Davis and others.
