Art of the Dogon
Hofstra University Museum of Art
Feb. 8, 2024 - Jul. 22, 2022
Art of the Dogon features works by the Dogon people of Mali that are drawn from the Museum’s extensive and highly regarded collection of African Art. The Dogon live in one of West Africa’s most spectacular landscapes, a row of cliffs known as the Bandiagara Escarpment, located in the central plateau region of Mali. Their complex mythology and sophisticated visual arts capture the imagination. The sculptures, masks, jewelry, and other works in the exhibition point to the significance of art in their daily life.
Funding has been provided by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature.
