Encaustic, derived from the Greek word enkaustikos, literally means to heat or burn in. It is a slower, laborious process, technically difficult to master and unlike any other medium used in 2-dimensional artwork. Timed with the spring exhibition, these encaustic works explore moments of shift—when structure loosens and new rhythms quietly take hold. The wax becomes a record of change rather than a fixed surface. “Emergence is defined as the process of coming into view or becoming exposed after being concealed, a concept that aligns the coming of spring with the actual process of creating encaustic art” –Karen Ross
