This June Agora Gallery presents a pair of exhibitions that generate a unique and essential dialogue between them. Unbound Perspectives, a group exhibit featuring thirteen artists from all over the world, presents a holistic look at the current state of contemporary art. From ink to photography to wood inlay, Unbound Perspectives examines the way image making has changed just in the last few years – perhaps even in the last few minutes. It is an exhibition on the cutting edge.
The Elixir of Color is a solo showcase for the remarkable body of work of painter Sherry Rinderer. Though Rinderer’s pieces tend to share some characteristics, including a degree of abstraction and an outsized scale, her approach varies as widely as the thirteen styles on display in Unbound Perspectives. She is interested in the interplay of textures with one painting, and in the directionality of line in another. In one she layers colors with the softness of an Impressionist; in another she color-blocks her canvas as jarringly as any De Stijl painter. Rinderer is both a chameleon and an auteur.
Both exhibitions open June 10 and run through June 30, 2017 with a joint opening reception on Thursday, June 15 from 6-8 pm. Entrance is free.
