Topsy Turvy is a series of large format upside-down classically composed portraits. Classical portraiture was meant to immortalize an individual and their status in the world. These paintings are not representations, but are rather studies that confront abstraction and figuration; they challenge the viewer to find signs and figures by looking at shapes and their relationship to each other thus creating a contemporary artifact of a former era.
