TIME|PLACE
Call for Michigan Artists – Lansing Art Gallery seeks artists to participate in a statewide competition with over $2,000 in awards. Located one block from the State Capitol at 119 North Washington Square, Lansing Art Gallery showcases the art of Michigan artists. Reflecting upon Lansing Art Gallery’s 50th Anniversary in September 2015 TIME|PLACE is intended to engage participants of all ages and walks of life with contemporary professional art inspired or influenced relating to time or place. Whether relating to past, present, or future, works must have been created within the past three years. Regardless of the reference to space, artwork itself (including installation) may not exceed 8’ in any direction. Applications of all media are encouraged.
JUROR
Rebecca Ruth Hart is the associate curator of contemporary art for the Detroit Institute of Arts. She has served as the organizing curator for more than ten national and international exhibitions, including Shirin Neshat’s mid-career retrospective Detroit (2013) and Seoul, Korea (2014). A longtime champion of Detroit artists, Hart served as a curatorial consultant for Take Another Look at Detroit, an exhibition in New York City featuring Detroit artists at the Marianne Boesky and Marlborough Chelsea galleries (2014). Hart graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history from Williams College and a Bachelors of Fine Arts, fiber, from Kansas City Art Institute. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Cranbrook Academy of Arts, fiber, and a Master of Arts in art history from Wayne State University, where she received the Mary Kirk Haggerty Award for art historical research. Her work has been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts, Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the Association of Art Museum Curators, the Joyce Foundation, the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation, and the Metropolitan Life Foundation.

ELIGIBILITY:
• Artists must be 18 year of age or older.
• Artists must be current residents of Michigan.
• Artists may submit individual work in all media, including artwork designed for installation.
• Artwork must be original in concept and design and may not be the result of instruction.
• Artwork must be properly prepared for presentation.
• Artwork must have been created within the past three years.
• Artwork may not exceed 8’ in any direction.

• 1 entry = member: $15/non-member: $25
• 2 entries = member: $20/non-member: $35
• 3 entries = member: $25/non-member: $40
Lansing Art Gallery is a non-profit art gallery and education center providing awareness, education and enjoyment of the visual arts by promoting the works of Michigan artists.
Artists may become members at the time of entry. Annual artist membership fee: $35.

PROMOTIONS
Lansing Art Gallery will widely promote participating artists through press release distribution locally and statewide, radio interviews, emails, print materials, social media, public speaking engagements, and word-of-mouth. An exhibition catalog will feature all selected artwork, and one copy will be provided to all artists selected for exhibition.
CONDITIONS
Artist is responsible for installation and removal OR shipping, insurance and return postage for artwork to be returned. All art not removed by the deadline of October 6 will become the property of Lansing Art Gallery. Lansing Art Gallery will charge 50% commission on sales for non-members and 55% for members. Participating artists will be required to sign a contract and complete a W-9 form for tax purposes. Entries will be handled with all possible care, but Lansing Art Gallery does not provide insurance for artwork and is not responsible for loss or damage from any cause whatsoever. Lansing Art Gallery reserves the right to remove a work for any reason. Permission to photograph accepted work for publicity purposes shall be granted unless specifically denied in writing.
Submissions will require the following:
• Up to 3 images of original artwork.
• Image resolution must be 300 dpi or higher as jpeg, png, tif, or psd.
• Current artist statement to be used for promotional purposes.
