Able Fine Art NY Gallery is pleased to present “The Walls of the Mountain,” a solo exhibition of Tony Kaye. The exhibition will consist of Kaye’s self-reflective body of work founded on his harmony of words and images. The artist’s vision–bold and introspective, subversive and visionary–indicates a desire to create, understand, and reinvent the self. The viewers can join Kaye’s quest.

Kaye, born in London, England, is an iconic director and artist known for his groundbreaking career in filmworks. Kaye confronts current social issues and is continuously displaying them in every aspect his work; American History X shows violence and racism in the U.S., Lake of Fire explores the abortion controversy, and Detachment shows the effects of societal disinterest. Kaye has also directed music videos for the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Johnny Cash. With his music video for “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” by Johnny Cash, Kaye won a Grammy. In 2008, Kaye worked with Damien Hirst to create a short film. Kaye has also been nominated for six Grammys. After he spent over twenty years in the film world, Kaye turned his bold, sensitive eye to visual art to continue the conversation with his audience on the raw, at times gruesome side of a humanity still poignantly full of hope.

The exhibition features Kaye’s most recent pieces, works that combine the words and images that allow his viewers to enter Kaye’s stream of consciousness, resulting in art that is both inspired by and created for New York. “The Walls of the Mountain” is named after Kaye’s vision of New York City as a wall, his art becoming a mountain full of his experiences. After 9/11, Kaye wrote a song titled “New York City,” a love letter to New York, whose message remains infused within “The Walls of the Mountain.” Relevant, personal, at times dark and satirical, Kaye’s new work invites his audience to see art as an investigative tool for human reflection. “The Walls of the Mountain” is founded on the presence of love amidst darkness, where his walls bring decorum to chaos, allowing his viewers to find sanctuary in his art.

Speaking of his career as a visual artist, Kaye states, “I am praying that within the diverse and deeply felt scribbling and scratching and trying to make some kind of brave and noble artistic gesture that I simply do not have the skill to make will yield splendor within the pain of not really being able to do it.” In an interview with Shots Magazine, Kaye observes of the potential of art, “When you create a poem, shape a chair, make a painting, write content for the internet, write and perform a song–all of these you create with all of mankind, and all of this collective energy, that global energy has a power.” With his prayer for sincere and unifying artwork, the exhibition will present Tony Kaye’s brand new perspective on the world around you.
