At a time in Washington when persons of interest tend to be of the political variety, Charlene Nield and Ann Pickett challenge this notion and offer respite by presenting an alternative cast of characters in their collection of figurative works, “The Usual Suspects.”

Nield’s motley crew of characters provides an eclectic and intricate sampling of her representational style. Colorful figures, rich with texture bring whimsy and joy to the banality of everyday life.

Pickett’s loose figurative style dances across her works creating the impression of figure and form through line, shape and color, compelling the viewer to leave rigidity behind and move in concert, freely and entirely.

“The Usual Suspects,” which revels in the juxtaposition of Nield and Pickett’s approach to figures, culminates in a collaborative effort that unites both artists’ painting styles. The resulting work, Gypsy, Grace & Queenie Marie, is engaging, a mystery that challenges the viewer to uncover where one painter stops and the other begins.
