The Greene County Council on the Arts Catskill Gallery invites the community to a celebration of the 25th anniversary of National Recovery Month during the exhibition, “The Other Side,” which runs September 6th through October 4th. An opening reception will be held September 13th from 5 to 7 p.m., 398 Main Street, Catskill, NY. Preceding the opening reception, there will be a screening of Greg Williams’ documentary “The Anonymous People ” in the Bridge Street Theatre at 3:00pm on September 13th.

This exhibition honors the journey of recovering addicts and their friends and families with artwork by individuals who have been affected by addiction and illustrates the hope found in recovery. It features portraits of recovering addicts by local photojournalist, Kyle Adams, who is working in partnership with Twin Counties Recovery Services and P.A.S. It On. The show includes submissions by artists whose lives are informed by stories of addiction and hope.
National Recovery Month, in its 25th year, provides resources on addiction treatment and mental health services and spreads the message that treatment is a healthy and viable option. Events and exhibitions across the country highlight “individuals who have reclaimed their lives and are living happy and healthy lives in long-term recovery and also honors the prevention, treatment, and recovery service providers who make recovery possible.” The community support and open discussion also serves to take the stigma out of addiction and mental health issues.
