Philip Koch: Landscapes and Hopper Interiors
Edward Hopper House Art Center
Feb. 14, 2025 - Apr. 12, 2015
A widely recognized contemporary landscape painter, Philip Koch was inspired early in his career by seeing the art of Edward Hopper to switch from painting abstractly to working in a realist direction. The exhibition at Hopper House Art Center (Hopper’s boyhood home) will fill three of the Center’s galleries with Koch’s vividly colored landscapes celebrating the natural world.
Alongside the landscapes will be paintings and drawings Koch has made of the interior of Edward Hopper’s Truro, MA studio during the 15 residencies he has been granted there since 1983. Also included will be paintings Koch made on location inside Hopper’s boyhood home in Nyack.
