July 27, 2014…The Silver Circle Gallery in Putnam, CT is proud to announce the upcoming exhibit Pathos: Works by Karen Reid featuring abstract impressionistic landscape and figurative oil, watercolor, and encaustic paintings. The exhibit will be on display September 4 – 28, 2014. There will be an artist’s reception Friday September 5th from 6:00 – 8:00pm and a gallery talk Saturday September 13th at 2:00pm.

The exhibit’s title Pathos means ‘to tug on an emotional chord’, which is representative of the profound impact Karen Reid’s paintings provoke. She harnesses an alluring, ethereal quality in her work which resonates on a deep and often subconscious level with the viewer. This is a natural result of her intuition-based creative process. “I immediately get an idea down on canvas to satisfy an impulse or emotion,” says the artist. “I then allow myself to dismantle the form and let the image evolve into what takes on a more sensitive, emotional and deeper meaning for myself. As I paint, I am seeking to recognize the significance of certain gestural marks, colours, and compositions. The results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted.”

Karen Reid studied at The Art Institute of Boston, The South Shore Art Center in Cohasset, MA, The Fuller Museum in Brocton, MA, the Danforth Museum in Framingham, MA, and The School of The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Currently, Karen works in her studio in Oxford, MA and teaches oil painting and watercolor classes while exhibiting mainly in the New England area.
