Stamford, CT – August 6, 2014: The Loft Artists Association will showcase the works of two members this November, Sary Backer and Ellen Gordon, in their East Gallery at 575 Pacific Street in Stamford. The exhibition will be held Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4:30 pm from November 1st until November 20th. An Artists Reception will be held on Saturday November 8th from 4 – 6 PM.
During a conversation some time ago about artistic inspiration, Sary and Ellen were both pleased and surprised to discover many mutual feelings. While their materials are different, the creative process of each is similar. It is this commonality that has prompted the two to exhibit together at the Loft Artists Association gallery. Since the work of each participant plays so well off of the other, their pairing is truly inspirational.
After an absence of several years the Loft Artists Association is happy to welcome Sary’s work back to East Gallery. Sary was born in Budapest and raised in Israel, where she graduated from the Hebrew University. Her sculptures in alabaster and marble have been exhibited extensively through-out the United States in galleries, juried shows and museums, and are included in several private collections. “Part of the pleasure of working with stone is finding inspiration from unusual shapes, where my imagination can work with the natural form of the stone. In my semi-abstract works, I try to re-create some of the beauty which I observe daily from my studio over-looking the harbor.”
This is Ellen’s first time exhibiting her collection of figurative collages and drawings as a group. She has been working on large format figurative collages for the past several years. While her work is inspired by her drawings from private sessions with a model, it speaks more about the creative magic that happens when inspiration and form collide. The artwork itself is the result of a searching process – finding the shapes and lines in the figure and composition. Ellen’s art training is from the Greenwich Art Society, Silvermine Arts Guild and the Rowayton Arts Center. She holds an undergraduate degree from Boston University and a master’s degree from Baruch College, NYC. She has exhibited regionally and is the recipient of many awards, she is the current president of the Loft Artists Association.
The Loft Artists Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to building connections within Fairfield County’s visual arts community and exposing the general public to culture and artistic works. Their events attract thousands of visitors throughout the tri-state area and have been recognized by funding agencies, including the Connecticut Commission on the Arts, corporate and private sponsors, the City of Stamford and visitors who return year after year.
