Jack Shainman Gallery is honored to open their fall season with a significant double-venue exhibition of new work by Nick Cave. Made by Whites for Whites is comprised of a series of new free-standing and wall-based sculptures that mark a notable shift in practice for Cave, who was inspired by the racially-charged, inflammatory objects he discovered in vintage and second-hand stores while traveling throughout the United States. By repurposing these objects, Cave aims to “rehabilitate the problematic, loaded imagery and find a place of relevance and empowerment through reuse.” A curated selection of works from this series was originally presented as part of the inaugural exhibition for The School in Kinderhook, New York, earlier this summer.
