Upon its founding in 1914, the Museum received the 1908 oil painting Mischief by American artist William Sergeant Kendall as its first gift. In the ensuing decades the Museum has been the beneficiary of a succession of many generous donations. Today the Museum boasts a collection of 95,000 works of art that range broadly in terms of geography, culture, chronology, and medium.”
