“Many Facets” New Works by Judy Friday

Cooley Gallery

May. 9, 2024 - Jun. 6, 2015

25 Lyme Street
Old Lyme, Connecticut 6371

Judy Friday is one of the best known contemporary artists in the area. Whether for her paintings, photography, weavings or sculptures Judy has a long list of devoted collectors. The Cooley Gallery is proud to present Many Facets, an exhibition and sale of new paintings, weavings and textiles by a very talented local artist.

Judy is one of those artists who confounds her audience by being so skilled in so many media. A rare week goes by when the artist Judy Friday doesn’t visit the gallery, her mind excitedly whirring with ideas of what her next work of art or series should be. With Judy, no medium is out of bounds. This newest exhibition, Many Facets, is the next chapter in Judy’s oeuvre. Judy is looking at the parts of an individual work and how they make up the whole and how that whole relates to a lifetime.

Judy’s a perfectionist, undaunted by the demands of process. In fact, the common denominator throughout Judy’s work is process. Each element of each piece is the result of careful study and experimentation in anticipation of its role as some part of a greater whole. Process is very much how Judy’s mind works. Weavings, works on paper, collages and paintings will all be shown in this exhibition. She continues her creative quest in this exhibition with varied and approachable works.

The gallery will host an opening reception for Many Facets on Saturday, May 9th from 5-8 p.m. The reception is free of charge and open to the public.
