On Saturday, September 5th, the Wally Workman Gallery will open their 2nd solo show with New Orleans based artist Mallory Page. Page works with color, composition and technique to deliver a purely visual interpretation of her interests in the push and pull of cognitive dissonance. In addition, her recent pieces begin to morph previous studies of color interaction and human interaction. The work remains consistent in monochromatic nature on a canvas; however, in reflection of the human experience, each canvas is paired with one of an equal and opposing character. Page notes inspiration from Rumi, that life “turns you from one feeling to another and teaches you by means of opposites, so that you have two wings to fly- not one.” Consistently displaying strong elements of design, fascinations with light, color, and layering, Page creates in each painting an environment from within.

Mallory Page’s monograph “The Alchemy Never Starts or Never Stops” recently won Runner-Up for best Photography/Art Book in the 2015 New York Book Festival. It features a collection of over 40 original works, intimate photos captured while working in the studio, and notes on inspiration found throughout her experiences. Wally Workman Gallery will host a book signing during the Happy Hour Preview Thursday, September 3rd.
