Boston Sculptors Gallery is pleased to present two concurrent solo shows, Journey, by Kalimah Muhammad and Spirit Level by Murray Dewart

Journey, Kalimah Muhammad’s solo exhibition, defined as both “an act of traveling from one place to another” and as “a long and difficult process of personal change and development,” Journey invites the viewer to observe and reflect on the idea of self-transformation.
In her new series of wood and concrete works, Muhammad explores what—or who—we are willing to give up in order to gain, and examines the external changes and behaviors manifest by our internal alterations. Muhammad charts the endeavor utilizing imagery of the human figure, juxtaposed with road signs, as well as the architectural form of the underpass.

Spirit Level, an exhibition of new work by Murray Dewart. An illuminated gateway, tall and translucent, looms in a darkened interior, while a beautiful soulful sound track plays. A large water vessel is accompanied by projected video imagery of gardens and parks, creating a lyrical meditation on the natural world. Several small bronzes fill one wall, and a fine example of Dewart’s signature one-ton granite and bronze gates is also on display.
