Blanton Museum of Art at the University of TX in Austin is currently showing ‘Impressionism and the Caribbean: Francisco Oller and His Transatlantic World.’ The exhibition runs until Sept 6th and features paintings by the Realist-Impressionist painter and his contemporaries. Works of historical and cultural context include paintings by many nineteenth-century greats including Paul Cézanne, Winslow Homer, Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro.

For several years Oller traveled to Europe and Puerto Rico, devoting much of his time in Paris. Returning to the US, Oller brought with him a hybrid of early European modernism that included Realism and documenting the life of locals in their Caribbean region.
