Born and raised in Mexico City and now based in Dallas, Texas, Gabriel Dawe works at the intersection of art, craft, and science. In 2010 Dawe began producing the large-scale and highly intricate Plexus installations for which he is best known, and in which he uses thousands of multicolored sewing threads to harness the full color spectrum of light. Each of these installations is meticulously constructed: individual strands of thread are interwoven through a series of hooks to create a unified network—or plexus. The title of the series also refers to networks of blood vessels and nerves. At once ethereal and dynamic, evanescent and corporeal, the constellation of threads that make up the weaving evoke tangible connections between light, architecture, and the body.
