Flower Power

Kenise Barnes Fine Art is pleased to present a summer showcase of new artwork. The exhibition titled Flower Power swings widely to encompass images of botany and artwork that alludes the idea of “flower power” as a visual symbol of nonviolence ideology and cultural freedom.

Flower Power presents the work of eight artists from around the country: Waddy Armstrong (San Antonio, TX), Charles Clary (Conway, SC), June Edmonds (Los Angeles, CA), Cara Enteles (New York, NY), Mary Judge (St. Louis, MO and New York, NY), David Konigsberg (Hudson, NY), Margaret Lanzetta (New York, NY) and Roger Ricco (Woodstock, NY).

Many paintings in this show are emblematic of Pop Art’s exaggerated use of flower forms and color. Margaret Lanzetta’s show stopping nine panel painting installation Trade Naked (70 x 55 inches), along with June Edmonds’s supersaturated painted impasto surfaces and Mary Judge’s stenciled powdered pigment paintings encapsulate the vibe of the ‘70s. David Konigsberg’s large pair of zinnia paintings, one orange and one purple, quite literally are Flower Power. Cara Enteles’s plant studies float on transparent acrylic panel. Enteles’s careful botanical observations are borne out of a love for nature and an activist’s concern for its peril. Roger Ricco’s poetic peony photographs are mysterious, their timeless beauty a study in peaceful stillness. Waddy Armstrong hybridizes botanical forms, exploring the solidity of nature’s presence, it’s patterns and its evanescence. Charles Clary’s exuberantly colored hand-cut paper towers wind and tumble their way across the walls, their vine-like journey uniting the gallery in color and spirit.

Additional space in our project room is reserved for framed drawings and our flat files which house hundreds of unframed works on paper. We always have a wide selection of paintings, drawings, prints, monoprints and photographs to offer collectors. We maintain an extensive lower level inventory warehouse that includes a private presentation room.
