Centre Gallery is pleased to present Fear of Missing Out, a durational performance by Alexander Stephen Albano, Caroline King, Carolyn Pacheco, and Libbi Annette Ponce.

FOMO or, the fear of missing out, is “the pervasive apprehension that others might be having rewarding experiences from which one is absent”. This condition, a consequence of the compulsive habit of maintaining uninterrupted connection with other people, is both mitigated with and caused by the possibilities of social media platforms and modern technology.

Fear of Missing out offers a virtual link into the personal lives, thoughts, engagements, and solitary practices of four contemporary artists through the utilization of mobile, social media, and live stream technology. The content of this presentation could be considered unique as the artifact does not come into existence until live streaming begins. This may be experienced in the gallery setting or on a mobile device.

Alexander Stephen Albano, Caroline King, Carolyn Pacheco, and Libbi Annette Ponce adopt different approaches in their individual studio practices. This show will juxtapose these differences and at the same time bring them to resolution. Fear of Missing Out seeks to promote conversation regarding the potentialities and pitfalls associated with the relationships between the individual, technology, and society in the 21st century.

Our opening reception, DesART, will be the first Monday of the show June 12th from 12-1 pm. Dessert and refreshments will be provided. The gallery will be open Monday thru Thursday, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. The closing reception will be held on Thursday, June 22 from 7-9 pm. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

All Centre Gallery exhibits and receptions are free and open to the public. Located on the second floor of the Marshall Student Center (MSC 2700)
