Garis & Hahn is pleased to present Colin Kilian: Paintings, Sculptures, and Drawings, Colin Kilian’s largest solo exhibition in NYC, featuring a series of 15 new paintings, drawings and sculptures. Bound by their all-encompassing displays of movement, spirituality and fluid consciousness, Kilian’s works transcend their chosen mediums of oil on canvas, pastel on paper and mixed-media sculpture. An opening reception will be held Friday, September 5th, 2014 from 7-9pm at Garis & Hahn.

Colin Kilian’s work communicates in a language comprised of kinetic energy and insight. Spending half the year in Bali, and the other half in Puerto Rico, Kilian’s pieces deliver thriving revelations that come to fruition via the virtues of living and working in transit. In a series titled “Impossibles,” Kilian’s paintings preoccupy themselves with articulating the mesmerizing grace of motion. The muted palette of black, white and gray serving as the foundation of “Impossibles 2,” “Impossibles 3” and “Impossibles 6” is intensified not only by accents and flares of bright red and blue and but also by volatile gestures of direction and movement. His sharply detailed sculptures, orchestrated on an approachable, human scale, encourage a mindfulness of space and the viewer’s place within it, even if the genesis and aspirations behind the pieces are inherently cryptic.
