Briony Morrow-Cribbs and Don Kauss: Vestiges of Beauty
Artisan Gallery
Feb. 24, 2024 - Apr. 16, 2017
Sculptor Don Kauss uses fragments of the past such as vintage photographs, butterfly wings, old machine parts, and bits of hair and bone to create his assemblages. Accompanying Kauss’s work are the etchings of Briony Morrow-Cribbs. Her hand tinted prints of flora and fauna draw from naturalists’ illustrations. Both artists look to the past as a means of contemplating our modern existence and our relationship with the natural world. Born in WI, Kauss received a BFA from the UW Madison and an MFA from Arizona State University. He currently resides and has a studio outside of Loganville, WI. Morrow-Cribbs graduated from the Emily Carr Institute in 2005 and completed her MFA at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2012. From 2012 to 2014 Morrow-Cribbs taught etching at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Born in the Bay Area and raised on an island off the coast of Washington State, Briony Morrow-Cribbs currently lives and works in the hills of rural Vermont.
